Virgin Atlantic is cutting more than 3,000 jobs and shutting down its Gatwick operation - but will continue to fly from Manchester Airport.
However, the 3,150 redundancies - 30 per cent of the total workforce - are due to hit employees 'across the board' and the airline has confirmed that their 745 staff at Manchester Airport will be affected, although it's not yet known to what degree Unite the union has described the decision to slash jobs as 'premature'.
Like many operators, the airline, which is currently applying for emergency loans from the government, is operating only cargo flights across the country as all but essential travel is banned during the pandemic.
