A young woman has been diagnosed with aggressive cancer less than a year after her mum died from it. Jasmine Akram cared for her mum who had ovarian cancer whilst studying and doing her university placement and was distraught when she passed away in November 2023.Tragically the 26-year-old has now been diagnosed with the deadly disease herself and is undergoing treatment to curb the illness.
After finding a lump in the shower Jasmine knew straight away it would be cancer but had to advocate for herself to get tests done after a GP said she was too young for a screening.Jasmine revised the traumatic experience in the hope of making others aware of early symptoms.
Speaking to Teeside Live she said: "Mum had five rounds of chemotherapy and a full hysterectomy. At first, it was positive, they were happy with the surgery.
She had two more rounds of chemo and was put on oral chemo. The treatment had been going well but during the treatment, Jasmin's mum told loved ones she felt worse from the tablet chemotherapy than the IV.
