A roadmap showing the way out of lockdown will be set out next week, Boris Johnson vowed as he announced Britain is past its coronavirus peak.
Sounding breathless as he led the daily No10 briefing for the first time in a month after battling the virus, the Prime Minister promised plans to start getting schools and businesses back to normal.
He said: “We’ve come under what could have been a vast peak, as though we’ve going through some huge Alpine tunnel and we can now see the sunlight and pasture ahead of us.” But as UK deaths rose to 26,771, he warned that lifting restrictions too soon could lead to a devastating second wave of the virus.
