Experts at Warwick University have claimed that a "rolling age-release" strategy, as well as social distancing, is the safest way to ease out of the coronavirus lockdown.
And on today's Good Morning Britain, resident GP Dr Hilary Jones shared some worrying statistics from the university's study.
The doctor said: "This is consistent with the science – the risk of coming out of lockdown in the UK would increase. "Fatality rate of people in their 50s would be 20 times that of young people in their 20s, and in the 60s it would be 50 times that of people in their 20s." The research, reported by The Daily Telegraph, says that people over the age of 50 should stay in lockdown and be fined by the police if they can't prove their age.
