Skating royalty Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have opened up about the toll their illustrious careers have taken on them as they gear up to retire from the spotlight.
The duo, whose partnership spans half a century, are preparing to say farewell to their ice skates. In an interview with Prima magazine, the 67-year-old Torvill confessed that the persistent demands of professional skating have left their mark on her.
Despite this, the Dancing on Ice celebrity noted: "We've never really stopped skating, and if we're in a period when we're not training together, we both use the gym quite a lot and keep fit that way." "If you've had a period of time when you've not skated, within 20 minutes on the ice, it's back.
It's always there. It's a bit like riding the bike story. But we've done it our whole lives and I think that's a big asset in keeping us fit and healthy, although there are aches and pains every now and then." Torvill and Dean, who became household names after clinching gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, have been gracing the panel as head judges on Dancing on Ice since 2018, evaluating stars such as former EastEnders actress Charlie Brooks, rowing legend Steve Redgrave, and Springwatch's Michaela Strachan.
