Shetland season nine is on the way with a Tosh having to confront a “personal” case but when will the latest outing begin? It’s been almost a year since Shetland was last seen on BBC One and there’s good news ahead of its return as the Scottish-set drama has already been confirmed for a 10th season. There was concern the show may not survive after the departure of actor Douglas Henshall as DI Jimmy Perez in series seven but thankfully is still thriving with Ashley Jensen as DI Ruth Calder at the reins. There isn’t too much longer left to wait as Shetland season nine is to debut on Wednesday, November 6 at 9pm on BBC One.The new episodes will then be dropped on BBC iPlayer shortly after airing on BBC One for fans to catch up on whenever they choose.Returning as the show’s new leading lady as DI Ruth Calder is actress Ashley Jensen who has previously starred as Maggie Extras, Christina in Ugly Betty and Emma in Netflix’s After Life.Jensen is joined by Scottish actress Alison O’Donnell who has been behind DS Alison McIntosh since the first season which aired in 2013.It has since been announced that Mr Bates VS The Post Office and The Responder star Ian Hart and Traces and Aquaman’s Vincent Regan will both be joining the series.Returning cast members include Lewis Howden, Anne Kidd and Steven Robertson.Shetland season nine is to consist of six episodes in total, much like the previous outings of the drama. Each episode is going to be released every Wednesday in the same time slot on BBC One.As long as there are no schedule shake-ups, the season nine finale of Shetland will be out on Wednesday, December 11. Shetland season nine premieres on Wednesday, November 6, at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
