Former England player Luther Blissett has been rushed to hospital after reportedly collapsing at a charity fundraiser last week.The 66-year-old was hosting the My Local Hero fundraiser at Watford's Grove Hotel on Saturday when he fell ill, according to The Sun.
A statement from Luther's former football club Watford FC read on Thursday: "Watford FC is aware of reports that the club’s all-time record appearance-maker and goalscorer Luther Blissett OBE DL is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital." Chairman and CEO Scott Duxbury added: "Luther and all of his loved ones know they have our full support.
We will do all we can to help." However, the Hornets confirmed that they have not received any direct confirmation from Luther or his family about his condition.They added: "Everyone connected with Watford FC would like to wish Luther the fullest possible recovery. 'Watford's Favourite Son' was helping raise money at a community event last weekend when he was taken ill." Luther, who was born in Jamaica, spent eight years at Vicarage Road before moving to Serie A giants AC Milan.
He returned to Watford the following season. He made a comeback for the third time in 1991, playing for clubs such as Bournemouth, West Brom and Bury, and also represented England 14 times, scoring three goals.
