Amy Dowden will not return to this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC has confirmed. The 34-year-old Welsh star, who was partnered with JLS star JB Gill, was rushed to hospital on Saturday, October 26, after feeling unwell after the live show.
She was taken from Elstree Studios, the BBC One show's production centre, to Barnet Hospital as a precautionary measure. However, it was later confirmed that she would be unable to perform the following week, with fellow pro dancer Lauren Oakley, who did not have a celebrity partner in this year’s series, stepping in to perform.
Now, the BBC have confirmed Amy will not be returning to the competition, as she continues to recover. A Strictly Come Dancing spokesperson said: “Sadly, Amy Dowden MBE will not be partaking in the rest of the competition this year.
Whilst Amy focuses on her recovery following a foot injury, fellow Professional Dancer, Lauren Oakley, will step in as JB’s dance partner. The health and wellbeing of everyone involved in Strictly are always the utmost priority. The whole Strictly family sends Amy love and well wishes.” This season, Amy made a triumphant return to the show post-treatment for breast cancer, which included a mastectomy followed by chemotherapy.
