The Tower, ITV's crime drama sensation, has been cancelled, leaving fans without their dose of detective mystery. The show, which ran across three successful series, enjoyed a loyal following, with viewership numbers ranging from three to six million.
Based on Kate London's Metropolitan series of novels, the series had its last outing broadcast over four consecutive nights this past September. "The Tower was much loved by the audience who watched the drama but the viewing figures for the last series did not reach expectations so sadly we won't be recommissioning," an ITV spokesperson revealed to The Sun.
OK! has contacted ITV for comment. The talented cast featured Gemma Whelan, Emmett J Scanlan, and Tamzin Outhwaite, and even though it was set in south east London, the filming mainly took place in Liverpool and Manchester in the north west.
In the gripping third series, audiences followed Gemma's character, police officer Sarah Collins, as she delved into the case of a teenager's stabbing and grappled with her dual life as a detective and mother. There were whispers of scripts being prepped for a fourth series, but it appears that the curtain has fallen on The Tower for the foreseeable future.
