Keri Russell Shares Why She 'Was Nervous' When Allison Janney Was Cast in 'The Diplomat' Season 2

Keri Russell is stepping out to promote the new season of her hit Netflix series! The 48-year-old Emmy-nominated actress and co-star Ato Essandoh attended PaleyFest 2024 for a special screening of season two of The Diplomat on Sunday (October 20) held at The Paley Museum in New York City.

While at the screening, Keri explained why she was “nervous a little bit” about Allison Janney joining the cast of The Diplomat for the new season. Keep reading to find out more…“Just because she’s awesome and so good,” Keri told People about the 64-year-old Oscar winner, before praising her told in the 1998 comedy Primary Colors. “I love her,” Keri added. “There’s a scene she does in Primary Colors – that movie is so good – where she does this physical comedy fall up the stairs.

So I think I was a little nervous, but she’s everything you want her to be. She’s gracious and funny and smart and cool.” She went on to say that she “tried to keep it cool at first” when she first started working with Allison, but eventually got the courage to tell her how much she loved her in the movie. Allison was cast in The Diplomat as Vice President Grace Penn back in January.
