UK coronavirus death toll rises by nearly 1,000 in a day

Almost 1,000 people are reported to have died in UK hospitals of coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The Government revealed that 8,958 have died since the start of the outbreak as of 5pm on Thursday, April 9.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the figure is a rise of 980 from the statistics from the day before - making it the UK’s deadliest recorded day from Covid-19 so far.
