A UK government minister has said the ongoing lockdown could last for three more months in a fresh bid to stop a second wave of mass coronavirus deaths.

Culture Secretary Oliver Downed said that Prime Minister Boris Johnson was worried about lifting lockdown restrictions too early and was cautious about changing them.

Speaking on Radio 4, Mr Dowden said: “The PM is very concerned about a second peak if we lift the restrictions too soon.” He added: “We said right at the beginning of this and the Prime Minister said he expected this peak to last around three months. “What’s happened is kind of consistent with that.” Schools across the UK will not open again until June, at the earliest, and people have been told to expect to be working from
