Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan (born 30 March 1965) is an English broadcaster, journalist, writer, and television personality. He is currently a co-presenter of the ITV Breakfast programme Good Morning Britain from Monday to Wednesday each week. Morgan began his career in Fleet Street as a writer and editor for several tabloid papers, including The Sun, News of the World, and the Daily Mirror. In 1994, aged 29, he was appointed editor of the News of the World by Rupert Murdoch, which made him the youngest editor of a British national newspaper in more than half a century.

Piers Morgan’s opinions may be divisive, but his scrutiny of the government’s response to coronavirus has won him praise from many, including NHS doctors.

The Good Morning Britain host grilled Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Thursday, with the pair ending up having a heated confrontation on the show.

One of his followers, Dr Alex Gates, who works in the NHS, took to Twitter to thank Piers for his work holding those in power to account.

Dr Gates tweeted: ‘Dear @piersmorgan Thank you for being one of the few to still keep holding this Govt to account during this crisis – you may be dogged, you may be bloody annoying but we *need accountability* right now and again this morning with @MattHancock you asked the important Qs Cheers ‘.
