Sixty nine hospital trusts in England have reported zero coronavirus deaths in 48 hours. Data from NHS England analysed by Oxford University researchers shows that the trusts, representing more than 57% of the national total, recorded the remarkable results.
But Dr Jason Oke and Professor Carl Heneghan from The Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine have warned that these figures should be treated with caution.
Statistics for deaths are generally lower after a weekend due to reporting delays. And PM Boris Johnson's official spokesman admitted it remains possible that 'R' - the number of people each Covid-19 sufferer infects - could rise to one, resulting in a dramatic increase in the number of cases.
