James Corden and Ruth Jones' final message to the cast of Gavin and Stacey as they wrapped filming on the last-ever episode has been revealed for the first time.

The show's co-writer, who also stars in the beloved BBC One sitcom as Neil 'Smithy' Smith, was heard speaking in the Gavin And Stacey: A Fond Farewell documentary which aired on Wednesday night (January 1), a week after the the finale of the beloved sitcom aired on Christmas Day with more than 12 million viewers on the night.

During the one-off episode to mark Gavin and Stacey: The Finale, which came five years after the last Christmas special in 2019 and was branded 'perfect' by fans, the writers are seen discussing sending the initial plans for the first series to BBC Three controller Stuart Murphy, who replied with a letter which read: "I think it could be one of the best things we ever do." James also explained that he had the idea for the show after a wedding he went to where all of the attendees were from Barry Island, where the show is set, and after a friend married a woman who he met after regularly speaking to her on the phone in his sales job, as the show’s main characters do.

In the documentary, the series’ cast can be seen reading through the script for the finale together for the first time before the special finishes with the cast gathering together ahead of the final day of filming, where James tells them it is "something to be really proud of".
