French skier Cyprien Sarrazin was rushed to intensive care after a horrific head injury during training in Italy.The shocking accident occurred while preparing for a World Cup downhill race on Friday in Bormio, leading to distressing scenes on the Stelvio slope, which is set to host the 2026 Winter Olympics.The French ski federation revealed that the 30 year old was conscious but had been diagnosed with a subdural hematoma, a type of bleeding near the brain.
Cyprien had to be airlifted to the nearest medical facility. After further examinations, it was decided that the Olympian would need surgery on Friday evening, according to information from the sport's governing body FIS.
Pietro Zazzi was another casualty who had to be airlifted to hospital following a crash. The Italian ski federation reported that Pietro suffered "a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula of his right leg".
He was taken to Milan, where he will undergo surgery on Saturday. Swiss skier Josua Mettler was the third man to crash on Friday before being taken back home for further tests on a knee injury.These incidents have raised serious concerns about the safety of Stelvio's downhill piste, which will be the course for next winter's Milan-Cortina Olympics, reports the Mirror.
