Three of Manchester's markets will have to close their doors as part of the coronavirus lockdown. That's despite some traders reporting a big upturn in trade amid the panic buying of food and household goods.

The council run markets in Gorton, Longsight and Wythenshawe will close at the close of trading tonight, Saturday 21 March the town hall announced yesterday.

They said the move was "in line with Public Health England advice" and it followed Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcement that he was to begin formally enforcing 'social distancing' by ordering pubs, restaurants and cafes to close.
