Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan (born 30 March 1965) is an English broadcaster, journalist, writer, and television personality. He is currently a co-presenter of the ITV Breakfast programme Good Morning Britain from Monday to Wednesday each week. Morgan began his career in Fleet Street as a writer and editor for several tabloid papers, including The Sun, News of the World, and the Daily Mirror. In 1994, aged 29, he was appointed editor of the News of the World by Rupert Murdoch, which made him the youngest editor of a British national newspaper in more than half a century.

Piers Morgan has continued to offer his opinions and hold people to account on Good Morning Britain throughout the current pandemic.

But viewers tuning in to the ITV show today may be a little surprised. The controversial presenter and his co-host Susanna Reid are currently off the air.

Piers told viewers last week that he would be replaced from Monday May 25. He explained that he has decided to take the half term holiday off - despite the fact that there is no half term - because it has been a "long old haul" reporting on coronavirus news.

Susanna, as well as Dr Hilary Jones, who have also been working throughout the pandemic, will be taking a break from the programme too.
