A children's doctor drank from a can of lager during a night shift. Dr Anna Crawford was seen to open a beer and drink it in a staff room during a break while working as a locum at Warrington Hospital in October 2021.
A healthcare assistant said she heard a 'really distinctive' sound of a can being opened, a Medical Practitioners Tribunal heard. "I instantly got a smell of strong lager," they added. "Dr Crawford got up and left and didn’t know I was there. 'Three or four cans of alcohol' were also found in Dr Crawford's rucksack, the hearing was told.
In November 2023, Dr Crawford, who has three drink driving convictions, was found guilty of serious misconduct and suspended from the medical register for 12 months.
The tribunal heard that during the covid pandemic Dr Crawford returned to the medical register and started doing locum shifts on labour, post-natal and paediatric wards for the Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
